Many children are unaware that there was a time when the United States Army did not welcome all strong, healthy people who were ready to serve their country. But this is how things were in the United States before the Buffalo Soldiers Army unit was formed. During times of war, Black men and women were allowed to serve in battles, however, they were not allowed to join the US Army during times of peace, back then. The United States was a changed nation after the Civil War.  Laws were changed, and for the first time, Black people were allowed to join the US Army during peacetime.  They served segregated, or separated, from white soldiers. Readers will enjoy the rhyming narratives that give insight into the trailblazing work of the Buffalo Soldiers.
